Normans Will Seek Championship Game
In the minutes following their exciting double-overtime playoff victory over Chaminade, members of the Beverly Hills High football team shouted, “Three more weeks!” and “That’s what I’m talkin’ ‘bout!”
Youthful exuberance, to be sure, and maybe a little bit of arrogance over defeating a 2-8 team. Three more weeks refers to how many more games the Normans could play if they are to reach the CIF-Southern Section Western Division championship; a peak no Beverly Hills team has reached.
But the next opponent, is far better, and the location far worse. It’s tonight at 7 at top-seeded Palmdale (10-1), 61 miles and 15 degrees away, if the weather reports are to be believed. And that doesn’t factor in any wind that often blows through the Antelope Valley at this time of year.
The Normans will have to bundle up and then hunker down. Palmdale, on an eight-game win streak, is trying to return to the championship game and could remind the Normans of some of their worst moments of the season.
