Jazz Festival’s Free Civic Center Concert May 2 To Feature Bill Cunliffe, Johnny Crawford
Grammy-winning pianist Bill Cunliffe’s septet will perform along with vocalist Johnny Crawford and His Orchestra when the Playboy Jazz Festival presents a free community concert, Sunday, May 2, at the Beverly Hills Civic Center Plaza, 450 N. Rexford Dr., from 3. to 5 p.m.
Attracting a nationwide following for his innovative recordings and compositions, Cunliffe has toured with jazz greats such as Buddy Rich, Frank Sinatra, Joe Henderson, Ray Brown, Joshua Redman, James Moody, and more.
Crawford is from a musical family, as well as being an actor and former child star, appearing in 200 TV shows, 15 movies, and 13 plays. He now performs with his own vintage dance band featuring authentic orchestrations from the first half of the 20th century.
The concert is the first in a series of free community events held in conjunction with the 32nd annual Playboy Jazz Festival, set for Saturday and Sunday, June 12 and 13 at Hollywood Bowl.
Food and refreshments will be available for purchase to the public but glass containers, alcoholic beverages and audio/video recorders are not permitted. Two free hours of parking is available at the Civic Center parking structure, adjacent to the Beverly Hills Public Library.
