Pacific Coast Highway Closure In Ventury County May Re-Open Monday
The Pacific Coast Highway closure in Ventura County may re-open by 6 p.m. Monday, California Highway Patrol dispatchers in Ventura said today.
Close to nine miles of the PCH have been closed since Dec. 19, when mud and rocks came down on the road during five days of rain.
Sustained rainfall softened sea cliffs above the road, which remains closed in both directions from Deer Creek Road to Las Posas Road.
Deer Creek Road crosses PCH about two miles west of the Los Angeles County line.
Drivers heading up the coast from Malibu are advised to take Kanan Dume Road north to the Ventura (101) Freeway.
Another possible detour, Decker Canyon Road, is steep with switchbacks and less suitable for regular traffic, CHP officers at roadblocks have advised some motorists.
