Metro Meeting At Roxbury Park Auditorium Tonight
By Brenton Garen, Beverly Hills Courier
The controversial subway route that could run under Beverly Hills homes and schools will be discussed at a local Metro meeting tonight from 6-8 p.m. at Roxbury Park Auditorium, located at 471 S. Roxbury Drive, Beverly Hills.
The Westside Subway Extension Project is currently in the final Environmental Impact Statement process.
The subway route has run into some controversy in Beverly Hills, where residents fear construction disruption and noise from subway trains if the line is built below homes near Beverly High.
The $5.2 billion project is scheduled for completion in 2022, although that date hinges on whether the federal government will lend Metro money to build it faster, with the loan to repaid by tax dollars already approved by county voters.
Proponents say the concerns are overblown, and the train should go below the homes and school to better serve office buildings and condos at Century City.
