‘Hall Pass’ Narrowly Edges Out ‘Gnomeo And Juliet’ In Weekend Box Office Takings

The Farrelly brothers’ latest comedy “Hall Pass’ survived lukewarm reviews to claim the top spot at the weekend box office, narrowly edging out some animated gnomes, according to final figures released today.

“Hall Pass,’ starring Owen Wilson, earned $13.5 million in its debut weekend to claim the top spot, according to Hollywood.Com Box-Office.

The animated 3-D adventure “Gnomeo and Juliet’ finished a close second with $13.4
million.

Last weekend’s top film, the Liam Neeson thriller “Unknown,’ earned $12.6 million over the weekend to slip to the third spot, while another thriller, “I Am Number Four,’ fell from third to fourth, earning $11 million.

The Adam Sandler-Jennifer Aniston romantic comedy “Just Go With It’ placed fifth, earning $10.5 million over Oscar weekend.

Rounding out the top 10 were “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never’ ($9.4 million); “Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son’ ($7.6 million); Oscar-winner “The King’s Speech’ ($7.3 million); “Drive Angry’ ($5.2 million); and “True Grit’ ($1.9 million).
