Quincy Jones Leads A Dazzling Night At The Hollywood Bowl In Honor Of His 60-Year Career

The multi-faceted Quincy Jones brings his quintessential mix of genres from big band, pop, R&B and hip-hop to the Hollywood Bowl in a rare, one-off performance, September 7, 2011 at 8 pm

Newly added to the night is the reigning “Queen of Latin Pop,” Gloria Estefan, who just joined the exclusive Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame at the beginning of the Hollywood Bowl’s 90th season.

Also added to the night are Brazilian percussionist Paulinho Da Costa, bassist Nathan East, and vocalist Seiko Matsuda, who join the supreme line-up of artists including the soulful group The Brothers Johnson, jazz singer Patti Austin, jazz bassist Richard Bona, Cuban pianist Alfredo Rodriguez, Canadian jazz-pop singer Nikki Yanofsky and the Quincy Jones All-Star Big Band.

As a master inventor of musical hybrids, Jones has shuffled pop, soul, hip-hop, jazz, classical, African and Brazilian music into many dazzling fusions, traversing virtually every medium, including records, live performance, movies and television.

His gift for fusing these genres is evident in albums such as the Grammy-winning Back On The Block, the 1995 recording Q’s Jook Joint and his recent release, Soul Bossa Nostra.

Jones always has his ear to the music of the moment and uses his musical insight and influence to bring break-out artists to the masses.

His collaborations have not only included the artists performing this evening but other music icons such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and Michael Jackson, among many others.

Jones’ creative magic has spanned six decades, beginning with the music of the post-swing era and continuing through today’s high-technology, international multi-media hybrids. He is an impresario in the broadest and most creative sense of the word, with a career that has encompassed the roles of composer, record producer, artist, film producer, arranger, conductor, instrumentalist, TV producer, record company executive, magazine founder, multi-media entrepreneur and humanitarian.
