Sheryl Crow Granted Restraining Order

Sheryl Crow

A judge has issued a temporary restraining order on behalf of Sheryl Crow, who says a male fan began posting disturbing Facebook messages about her a few months ago and later said he was going to shoot her, court documents show.

Santa Monica Superior Court Judge Joseph Biderman issued the order on behalf of the 50-year-old singer last Tuesday, directing Phillip Gordon Sparks to stay at least 100 yards from Crow and her home — along with her 5- and 2- year-old sons and their nanny — pending an Aug. 14 hearing on whether the order should be extended.

Crow says in a sworn declaration that she was told by her manager, Pam Wertheimer, that Sparks showed up at the Screen Actors Guild offices earlier this month and told a SAG employee “that he was going to just shoot me.”

Crow says the remark made her increasingly worried about Sparks’ behavior.

“This statement was obviously extremely alarming to me as it showed that Mr. Sparks’ behavior toward me had escalated dramatically and included a specific threat of physical harm directed at me,” she stated. “His statement also put me in fear for my family, employees and representative, including Ms. Wertheimer specifically as I understand Mr. Sparks had mentioned her by name in some of his posts.”

Wertheimer told her in April about the Facebook messages, Crow says.

“It was clear to me that (Sparks) was deeply disturbed because his posts were delusional, rambling, filled with profanity and laced with angry rants,” Crow says in her declaration. “For example, Mr. Sparks claimed in one of his posts that I had broken into his home because I was looking for his gun. Other posts claimed that I was supposedly filming him surreptitiously, had tried to have him arrested and that I had stolen money from him.”

Crow said all of the accusations were false and that she does not know Sparks.
