West Hollywood Archer to Resume Olympic Competition Wednesday
West Hollywood resident Khatuna Lorig will face Sherab Zam, who carried Bhutan’s flag in the opening ceremony, in a first-round match of the Olympic women’s archery individual competition Wednesday at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.
Lorig had the fourth highest score in Friday’s individual ranking round, 669 out of a possible 720. Zam was 61st at 589.
The match is scheduled to begin at 4:15 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time and will be shown live on NBCOlympics.com. The winner will advance to face the winner of the match between Canadian Marie-Pier Beaudet and Louise Laursen of Denmark at 4:41 a.m. Beaudet was 29th in the qualifying round with a score of 645 and Larsen 36th at 641.
The match is the best of five sets, with each set consisting of three arrows per archer.
Lorig finished fifth in the individual event in the 2008 Olympics, the best performance by a U.S. archer, male or female.
Lorig was part of the U.S. team that lost to eventual silver medalist China, 218-213, Sunday in a quarterfinal match of the team competition.
