Blaze Burns Home in Trousdale Estates
A fire in Trousdale Estates consumed a home in the 1000 block of Wallace Ridge Thursday night. The cause of the blaze is unknown. The blaze lit up the night but firefighters were able to contain it. Witnesses described heavy smoke and fire showing through the roof of the single-family, multi-million dollar home.
Battalion Chief Dave Grate said the home was, “totally secured, with heavy structural damage. Many of the rooms to the rear of the house and the attic are red-tagged.” It appeared to have begun in the rear of the home, he said.
No one was injured in the blaze. A housekeeper was the only person at home when firefighters arrived.
Frieda Berlin, a close neighbor, said she was either the second or third call to the fire department.. “ I smelled smoke. It was 9 p.m. There was really fast response time. They were up here until 1 a.m. at least. “It was very scary,” said the wife of Trousdale Homeowner’s Association president, Alan Berlin. “I wish that everybody around here would take note and trim their palm trees! It was a house fire that accidentally started but people need to be aware of how fast a fire can travel.”
The housekeeper was able to open the gate for firefighters to access the home, said Chief Gate.
“We are very proud of our fire department,” said Berlin.
