Courier Sponsors Beverly High School Football Game

Beverly Hills High Vs San Marino Football Coin Toss

Beverly Hills Courier and San Marino Tribune publisher Clif Smith tosses the coin at the start of Friday night’s Crowell Cup football game between San Marino and Beverly Hills sponsored by the Courier and the Tribune.  The trophy is named in honor of the late Donald Crowell and the Hon. Suzanne Crowell.  Don Crowell, a Beverly Hills native, is honored as a member of the Beverly High Wall of Fame.  He and wife Suzanne moved to San Marino many years ago.  She was elected to the San Marino city council and was Mayor of San Marino.  The Crowells provided the major naming gift for the Crowell Public Library in San Marino.  The Crowell Cup is awarded to the winner of the annual contest.  Last year, the Courier hosted all Beverly Hills rooters in San Marino with hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks.  This year, the Tribune hosted all San Marino rooters in Beverly Hills the same way.  Beverly High broke a 7-quarter scoring drought with its first touchdown of the game but still lost to San Marino 64-6.  Beverly High won the toss.
