Leaving the field after a 49-14 loss capped a 0-10 season record, the Beverly Hills Normans could be forgiven some show of dejection. But such was not the case this past Friday, when the Normans took on the Ocean League’s first place Culver Cavaliers.
Instead, it was a quiet sense of pride borne of a season of toil that accompanied Beverly Hills to the locker room that night, as yet another game concluded with a score not reflective of the play on the field.
Indeed, as late as 5:43 remaining in the 3rd quarter, the Normans were only down 28-7, following a 2-yard scoring plunge by #32 Rashad Ysaquirre. Calamity soon struck, however, as the Cavaliers scored on the following kick-off return, soon followed by an interception deep in Norman territory that lead to yet another Culver touchdown. Suddenly, it was 42-7, and the rout was on.
Both teams went on to score another touchdown each, Beverly’s coming on a 70-yard catching romp by #2 Chris Johnson. For the Beverly Hills Normans, the season will not be measured by success, but remembered for its strength in the face of adversity.
