Gruel Announces Bid for Waxman Congressional Seat
Wendy Gruel, who lost her bid to become mayor of Los Angeles in the city’s last mayoral election, has announced that she will vie for the congressional seat being vacated by Henry Waxman.
The 74-year-old Waxman is a liberal Democratic icon in Congress. He announced yesterday that he will retire at the end of the congressional session. Waxman was elected in 1974 to represents the 33rd Congressional District, which includes Palos Verdes, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica and Malibu. It’s one of the nation’s wealthiest districts. Also seeking the seat is self-help author Marianne Williamson.
She’s running as an independent. State Senator Ted Lieu … a Democrat from Torrance … says he’ll announce later today whether he’s going to vie for the seat as well.
