Storm Causes 50-Foot Tree To Crash Through Roof
With rain hammering the area, a 50-foot tree crashed through the roof a house in Burbank today, but a woman in her 80s escaped unharmed, authorities said.
The tree toppled over just before 2 p.m. in the 300 block of North Beachwood Drive, said Capt. Peter Hendrickson of the Burbank Fire Department.
The tree crashed “straight into the front of the house,” with one limb going through the roof and into the living room, he said, adding that the front porch also sustained heavy damage.
The woman, who was the only one home at the time, escaped out a back door, Hendrickson said.
City building inspectors examined the house and determined it was structurally sound, and public works employees responded to repair downed power lines, he said.
