SiliconBeachClearly: Flavors of Los Angeles Food Event at Loews Santa Monica
This annual culinary evening supports the American Liver Foundation (ALF). Unlike many food events in L.A., Flavors of Los Angeles isn’t a walk-around tasting. Rather, it’s a sit-down, five-course meal. Instead of sampling only mini-bites from various chefs, one talented toque is dedicated to each table of 12 (exactly which chef you are randomly assigned is a surprise, and that’s part of fun).
This year’s participating chefs in Flavor of Los Angeles include special honoree Shigefumi Tachibe (The Chaya Group), Collin Crannell (The Lobster), Mirko Paderno (Livello at L’Ermitage Beverly Hills, Oliverio at The Avalon), Kevin Meehan (Kali Dining), Mathew Woolf (Palihouse), Wonny Lee (Hamasaku), Freddy Vargas (Scarpetta), David Iino (Salt), Perry Cheung (Phorage), Sarkis Gyumushyan (Loews Santa Monica), and Phillip Frankland Lee (Scratch Bar).
Before dinner, there will be a cocktail reception with tray-passed hors d’oeuvres representing each restaurant included in the evening’s program. New in 2014 will be the addition of an oyster bar by Christophe Happillon, aka the Oyster Gourmet. Pair the fresh bivalves with a cold shot of American Harvest organic vodka or Casa Amigos tequila. If you prefer wine, Kiamie Wine Cellars and Vina Sympatica will both be poured.
Flavors of Los Angeles will be hosted by chef and TV personality Sharone Hakman, widely known for his over-the-top performance on the Fox hit series MasterChef. The former financial planner turned celebrity chef is expected to be a consummate emcee.
This year’s event will honor Dr. Andrew Klein, director of the Comprehensive Transplant Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
The event will take place at the Santa Monica beach hotel May 4. The reception and silent auction will run from 5:30 p.m.-6:45 p.m., with the dinner following at 7 p.m. Tickets are $275 each. Tickets are no longer available on the website, but may be purchased by calling the ALF at (310) 670-4624.
Event sponsors include Salix Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Cedars-Sinai, One Legacy, Avella Specialty Pharmacy, Los Angeles Magazine, Abbvie, and Bristol-Myers Squibb.
Proceeds will benefit the local division of the American Liver Foundation, which is dedicated to overall liver health, including hepatitis prevention and treatment, as well as other research and awareness about other diseases that affect this vital organ.
