Beverly Hills News – Demolition Begins on Site of Waldorf Astoria

Posted Monday June 30, 2014 1:20 pm By Victoria Talbot

Demolition crews are preparing the site for the demolition of the eastern-most portion of the property at the intersection of Santa Monica Bl. and Wilshire Bl., the planned site of the new Waldorf Astoria.

The site is being made ready so that demolition can take place during the El Rodeo school holiday, in keeping with the permit which does not allow the potentially harmful demolition when school is in progress.

The original plan for the hotel was approved in 2008. Recession setbacks delayed construction. The Architectural Review Commission approved a revised building exterior two weeks ago, though the details of the revisions were unavailable for consideration.

The new hotel will include 170 rooms, bringing the total number of rooms, including the Beverly Hilton Hotel, to 522 rooms on that site.
