Mary Dohn moved to Beverly Hills in 1948, a newlywed Catholic schoolteacher from Indiana who had grown up with strong Midwestern family values.
“I always thought I’d get married, that I’d stop working and have a family,” Dohn recalled of the dream she’d harbored since childhood. At 38, she met fellow Indianan Bernard Dohn, 12 years her senior, and the two were soon married.
“He was interesting and involved in the world’s activities and was people-caring,” she recalled of the man she was married to for 42 years until he died in 1990.
