(CNS) – Fans of Marilyn Monroe have never been shy about their love of the screen icon, and a few reached deep into their bank accounts during a weekend sale to nab some memorabilia from a Beverly Hills auction house, which says the star’s original Westwood grave marker sold for $212,500.

The sales price was well above the original estimate of $2,000 to $4,000, according to Julien’s Auctions.

Another fan shelled out $348,000 to take home a floral-print dress Monroe wore in her final film, “Something’s Gotta Give.” A copy of Playboy magazine with Monroe on the cover and autographed by Hugh Hefner sold for $87,500, while photos of the actress taken by Jack Cardiff went for $37,500, Julien’s announced.

According to Julien’s, which held the auction on Friday and Saturday, the original bronze grave marker from Monroe’s crypt at Westwood Village Memorial Park was removed and replaced in the 1970s. When it was removed, the original marker — which says only “Marilyn Monroe 1926-1962” — was given to an employee of the Gasser-Olds bronze-casting company that produced it.
