Beverly Hills News – Metro to Begin Preliminary Work for Utility Relocation
Posted: Wednesday, August 26, 2015 – 10:49 AM
Metro is currently performing utility relocation work for the subway station at La Cienega and Wilshire Boulevards. This work is being conducted under a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the City and Metro that sets certain conditions for how and when the work can proceed.
The City Council recently reviewed a permit application from Metro and set a number of conditions for preliminary exploratory work, including collection of soil samples, for the proposed subway route through western Beverly Hills (La Cienega to Century City). The permit work is anticipated to take approximately three months and includes exploratory work at the proposed Wilshire-Rodeo Station location. Separate MOAs for the actual construction of the Rodeo Drive subway stations and tunnels westerly of La Cienega will be negotiated in the future, pending the outcome of litigation.
Regarding the litigation, both the City and the School District have cases pending in State appellate court and the federal trial court challenging the alignment decision. The cases are fully briefed and awaiting oral argument. The permits for exploratory work requested by Metro will have no impact on those cases.
