Beverly Hills News – James Bond Beat Charlie Brown In Weekend Box Office

(CNS) – It was James Bond over Charlie Brown at North American theaters this weekend, as the latest installment of the super-spy film series dominated the box office, according to final figures released today.

“Spectre” earned $70.4 million in its debut weekend, easily besting the opening of “The Peanuts Movie,” which earned $44.2 million, according to final figures released today.

“Spectre” scored the second-highest opening weekend ever for a Bond movie, behind only the last installment of the series, “Skyfall,” which opened with $88.4 million.

Matt Damon’s blockbuster outer-space adventure continued to attract moviegoers over the weekend, earning another $9.1 million to give it a six-week take of $196.8 million.

“Goosebumps” took fourth place over the weekend with $6.8 million, while director Steven Spielberg’s “Bridge of Spies” earned $5.8 million.

Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were “Hotel Transylvania 2” ($3.6 million); “Burnt” ($2.9 million); “The Last Witch Hunter” ($2.6 million); “The Intern” ($1.7 million); and “Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension” ($1.6 million).
