Whether you’re Celine Dion or just a star singer in your own shower, Beverly Hills has the perfect event for you.

On Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, newly-installed Mayor John Mirisch is hosting his first-ever “Beverly Hills In Harmony Sing-Along.”

The sing-along will give community members the opportunity to belt out classic show tunes with Mirisch, the L.A. Lawyers Philharmonic – led by founder-conductor Gary S. Greene – members of the City Council, City officials like City Manager Mahdi Aluzri and City Clerk Byron Pope and community leaders like realtor Michael Libow.

The event will also feature the premiere of The Hills Of Beverly, a tune Mirisch says is meant to be the theme of his sing-along series. The Hills Of Beverly is an adaption of a Emmerich Kálmán song from the operetta Countess Maritza.

“This is about the community making music together and having fun together,” Mirisch said. “I hope this provides another way to connect us and create memories for us all.”

The sing-along is more than just a fun night at the theatre – singing can actually be good for your health. A 2013 study by George Mason University in Virginia found that singing show tunes can be helpful in fighting Dementia.

“Even when people are in the fairly advanced stages of dementia, when it is so advanced they are in a secure ward, singing sessions were still helpful,” wrote Jane Flinn, one of the George Mason scientists involved in the study.

Mirisch said there’s only one rule for the sing-along: “It’s more important to sing out than to sing well. Just sing!”

The free sing-along is Thursday, March 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater at 8949 Wilshire Blvd.

Tickets can be reserved for the free event at, or by visiting the Roxbury Park Community Center.
