‘X-Men: The Apocalpyse’ Wins Weekend Box Office Battle

“X-Men: The Apocalypse” won the box office battle in its debut in theaters, taking the top spot over the four-day Memorial Day weekend, according to industry figures released today.
The latest installment in the long-running franchise took in an estimated $80 million Friday through today in the United States and Canada, according to comScore.
In second place was “Alice Through The Looking Glass” with $34.1 million in its debut weekend.
“As Memorial (Day) weekends go, this was not one for the record books,” said media analyst Paul Dergarabedian, at comScore. “But still there are some bright spots and obviously this was a great weekend for a plethora of strong holdovers.”
“The Angry Birds Movie” took in $24.6 million in its second weekend of release.
“Captain America: Civil War” was fourth, with a projected $19.7 million. It has grossed $377 million domestically so far.
In fifth place was “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising” with $11.4 million.
Rounding out the top 10 are “The Jungle Book” ($9.2 million), “The Nice Guys” ($8.1 million), “Money Monster” ($5.5 million), “Love & Friendship ($3.1 million) and “Zootopia” ($1.1 million).
