(CNS) – Casey Affleck will be awarded the Desert Palm Achievement Award at January’s Palm Springs International Film Festival, festival organizers announced Friday.

Affleck will be honored for his role in “Manchester By The Sea,” set for wide release next week.

According to Festival Chairman Harold Matzner, “Casey Affleck delivers his finest performance in `Manchester By The Sea,’ playing a Boston janitor living a lonely and isolated existence. He has earned rave reviews from critics and is sure to garner awards attention. It is our honor to present the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actor, to Casey Affleck.”

Past recipients of the award include Daniel Day-Lewis, Jeff Bridges, Johnny Depp, Bradley Cooper, Matthew McConaughey, Sean Penn, Colin Firth, Brad Pitt and Eddie Redmayne.

Affleck will receive the award at the Film Awards Gala, held Jan. 2 at the Palm Springs Convention Center, and hosted by Mary Hart.

The Palm Springs International Film Festival will run from Jan. 2-16.
