With a steady rain wilting the decor and causing smiles to sag a bit, a lighter-than-usual crowd turned out to celebrate Beverly Hills’ official welcome to the 2016-17 Holiday Season on Rodeo Drive.
Organizers, seeing the weather forecast, moved the ceremony up 90 minutes in hopes of beating the rain, but only succeeded in changing the time. The rain came anyway, and so did a throng of dedicated holiday enthusiasts who were ready to ring in the season.
Nonetheless, a new component of holiday food offerings for a “Taste of the Holidays” event, which was well-attended prior to the show, featuring brownies and Sprinkles cupcakes and a host of other local eateries.
This year, the Rodeo Drive committee invited longtime Entertainment Tonight host Mary Hart to host the event. Looking festive, Hart was a trooper, “weathering” the wet weather with a holiday grin and good humor. She was joined by singer Megan Hilty and more for a rousing seasonal songfest.
Despite the last minute time change and the weather, the event was topped with a visit from Santa Clause himself and a barrage of beautiful fireworks across Rodeo Drive.
The event was also a reminder that Beverly Hills can be generous – and this year, there will be kiosks throughout the season where people can give the gift of warmth on a cold day – by leaving gently-used coats – or donate to the Salvation Army or the local Maple Center. Announced at the event, Mary Hart gave $10,000 to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to kick off the giving!
Rain or shine, the show went on, and now we wish you all Happy Holidays!
