Clippers forward Blake Griffin is known as one of the best slam dunk artists in NBA history.
In Wednesday night’s 133-124 victory over the Washington Wizards, Griffin had a special pair of sneakers helping him take flight.
In connection with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles’ (CHLA) Make March Matter fundraising drive, Griffin wore sneakers designed by 11-year-old CHLA patient Justice Griffith.
The red and black Clippers-themed sneakers – with “Justice” emblazoned on the tongue of the shoe – were designed in collaboration with Jordan Brand’s “Super.Fly 5” line. The sneakers designed by Griffith were renamed the “Just 5.”
Blake Griffin wore the shoes Wednesday and had one of his best performances of the season, scoring 26 points with 10 rebounds and nine assists.
In the postgame press conference, Griffin said other players on the court were asking him about the shoes, not knowing who designed them.
“They were awesome, I was completely blown away by Justice’s vision for the shoe and how exact he wanted it,” Griffin said after the game. “I can’t even decide what shirt to wear every day and he was like ‘no I want this red, laces black’ you know what I mean? He went through the whole thing and knocked it out.”
The shoes are now being auctioned off online at www.clippers.com/auction with all proceeds going toward the Make March Matter program.
The auction opened on March 18 and will run until April 13.
