(CNS) – Law enforcement officials throughout the Southland say they are closely monitoring Saturday’s terrorist attacks in London and are ready to react in case similar actions are attempted locally.
“We are aware of the situation,” Los Angeles Police Department Media Relations Officer Mike Lopez told City News Service. “We are monitoring social media and keeping an eye on the latest developments.
We always plan for the worst and hope for the best,” Lopez said. He asked the public to be vigilant. “And if they see something please say something.”
The LAPD said in a statement that no threats have been determined.
“While the (LAPD) continues to communicate with our law enforcement partners there is no credible threat or (connection) to L.A.,” the statement said.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department also was watching events in London, but has not altered its operations as a result, Deputy Ryan Rouzan of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau told CNS. “If a specific threat is not made we don’t go on alert. It is business as usual.”
The response was similar in Orange County.
“We are at a constant level of awareness,” Orange County sheriff’s Lt. Dan Dwyer said to CNS. “We have received no credible threat in relation to what happened in London.”
Law enforcement as a rule play close attention to shopping and entertainment areas and major attractions such as sporting and concert events.
Local authorities have not revealed if a heightened presence is happening Saturday evening as a result of the London attacks.
