Horror Flick ‘Jigsaw’ Claims Box Office Crown Over Halloween Weekend

Just in time for Halloween, another horror film shot to the top of the North American box office over the weekend, with “Jigsaw” debuting in first place, according final figures announced Monday.

“Jigsaw” opened with $16.6 million between Friday and Sunday, according to box-office tracker comScore. That easily bested “Tyler Perry’s Boo 2! A Madea Halloween,” which slipped into second place with $10 million.

The disaster thriller “Geostorm” took third place with $5.9 million, followed by the spooky “Happy Death Day” with $5.1 million.

The sci-fi sequel “Blade Runner 2049” stayed in the top five by earning $4.1 million.

Rounding out the 10 most-popular movies of the weekend were “Thank You For Your Service” (debuting with $3.8 million); “Only The Brave” ($3.5 million); “The Foreigner” ($3.4 million); “Suburbicon” ($2.8 million); and “It” ($2.5 million).
