The holiday box office ignited in an-otherwise dreary December, as “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” grossed $220 million in sales, and became the second-biggest debuting film in Hollywood history.

The Disney film “is a knockout, with audiences giving it a full 5 out of 5 stars on comScore’s PostTrak audience survey,” said industry analyst Paul Dergarabian, who tracks the business side of the street.

In second place, “Ferdinand” opened with $13.3 million in business for Fox.

And third place, Disney/Pixar’s “Coco” was on track to sell $10 million in tickets domestically, and has now earned $150.8 million in North America since its release four weeks ago, on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

Rounding out the 10 most-popular movies in the U.S. and Canada, as estimated by the studios and gathered by comScore, were “Wonder” ($5.4 million), “Justice League” ($4.2 million), “Daddy’s Home 2” ($3.8 million), “Thor: Ragnarok” $3 million), “The Disaster Artist” ($2.6 million), “Murder On The Orient Express” ($2.5 million) and “Lady Bird” ($2.1 million).
