Star Wars Holds Off Jumanji For Another Box Office Win

“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” was the most popular movie at North American theaters over the four-day Christmas weekend, hauling in nearly $100 million, according to revised industry figures released Tuesday.

The latest installment of the sci-fi franchise took in $99 million in theaters in the United States and Canada from Friday through Monday, and has made $395 million in just two weeks of release, according to box-office tracker comScore.

“Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” debuted in second place with $55.4 million.

“Pitch Perfect 3” was third in its first weekend in theaters, taking in $26.4 million.

Another film making its debut, “The Greatest Showman,” was fourth with $14.4 million.

The animated film “Ferdinand” was in fifth place with $10.1 million.

Rounding out the weekend’s top 10 films were “Coco” ($8.1 million); “Downsizing” ($7.6 million); “Darkest Hour” ($5.5 million); “Father Figures” ($5.4 million); and “The Shape of Water” ($4.4 million).
