Project Angel Food Receives $30,000 Donation From Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation To Help Fight Hunger

Project Angel Food has received a $30,000 donation from the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation to help combat food insecurity in Los Angeles County.  The donation is part of a program called  Fill Your Tank, which celebrates Enterprise Rent-A-Car’s 60th anniversary. The program will provide $60 million, over six years, to fight hunger around the globe. The program donations made locally are determined by local Enterprise operations.

Valerie Brandon, regional VP, in presenting the donation to Project Angel Food said, “Enterprise- Rent-A-Car is woven into the fabric of the Los Angeles County community, and food insecurity is an issue for our community. This donation to Project Angel Food will support those in our community who need a little help to reach to their full potential.” Hunger is often invisible and the campaign helps make hunger in our communities more visible.

Richard Ayoub, executive director, Project Angel Food said, “L.A. County has the highest food insecurity rate in the country. In these extremely difficult times we are seeing much greater hardships among our clients, who are increasingly concerned about food awareness. Last year for the first time in our 28- year history, we had a waiting list of clients needing to join our food program. This donation will go a long way toward eliminating that anxiety.”

Since 1989, Project Angel Food has prepared and delivered nearly 11 million meals – currently 11,000 per week – free of charge to men, women and children living with critical illnesses. Project Angel Food expanded its initial mission from serving people living with HIV/AIDS to include medically tailored meals, prepared by the staff and volunteers, for those combatting cancer, kidney failure, diabetes, congestive heart disease and other illnesses. The mission has always remained intact, to feed and nourish the sick, by delivering healthy, nutritious meals throughout 4,400 square miles of L.A. County. More than 98  percent of Project Angel Food clients are living below the poverty level, and Project Angel Food is their lifeline. The client demographics are: 37 percent Latino, 29 percent African-American, 22 percent Caucasian, 6 percent Asian/Pacific Islander, 1 percent Native American and 5 percent multicultural.
