“Black Panther” was number one at the box office for a fifth straight week Sunday, as the Marvel/Disney superhero vehicle took in another $27 million in ticket sales in the United States and Canada.
That brings its domestic total to “an incredible $605.4 million through Sunday in North America,” said comScore movie analyst Paul Dergarabedian. Add in the rest of the world, and the movie was closing in on $1.2 billion in ticket sales.
But not far behind was “Tomb Raider,” the third movie in the Lara Croft arc. It opened with an estimated $23.5 million in sales for Warner Bros.
And a “faith-based” movie opened in third place, with “I Can Only Imagine” on pace to sell $17 million in tickets.
Rounding out the 10 most-popular films this weekend in the U.S. and Canada, as estimated by the studios and collated by comScore, were “A Wrinkle In Time” ($16.6 million), “Love, Simon” ($11.5 million), “Game Night” ($5.6 million), “Peter Rabbit” ($5.2 million), “Strangers Prey All Night” (4.8 million), “Red Sparrow” ($4.5 million) and “Death Wish” ($3.7 million).
