Legislative Summit Begins At L.A. Convention Center

The four-day National Conference of State Legislatures Legislative Summit is scheduled to begin Monday at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Monday’s general session is titled “State Networking Event and CEO Forum.”

Tim Chen, CEO of the personal finance website Nerdwallet; Brynne S. Kennedy, the CEO of the global mobility management company Topia; and Marco Zappacosta, the CEO of Thumbtack, a platform that connects customers to professionals, are set to participate in a panel discussion.

The moderator will be Andrea Deveau, vice president, state policy and politics of TechNet, which bills itself as the national bipartisan network of technology CEOs and senior executives, which promotes the growth of the innovation economy.

A session titled “Cybersecurity for Elections: State Policy Options” will be streamed from 3:15-5:15 p.m. on the conference’s website, ncsl.org.

More than 100 sessions are scheduled for the summit, including “The Future of Gaming and Sports Betting,” “At a Crossroads: States, the Federal Government and Marijuana” and ” The Future of Online Sales Tax.”

Scheduled speakers include former Democratic National Committee interim Chair Donna Brazile and former Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah.

Organizers expect more than 5,500 state legislators, legislative staff, federal officials and others from across the nation and the world to attend, including more than 200 elected officials and legislative staff from 20 foreign nations.

The summit is projected to generate more than $8 million in economic activity in the Los Angeles area, according to organizers.
