‘Grinch’ Steals Box Office With $66M Opening

“Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch” stole off with the weekend box office crown, hauling in $66 million in theaters in the United States and Canada from Friday through Sunday, industry figures showed Sunday.

It was the debut weekend in theaters for the latest cinematic version of the holiday favorite.

In second place was the Queen biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody” with $30 million.

Third place went to “Overlord” with $10 million. Disney’s “Nutcracker And The Four Realms” was fourth with $9.5 million, and “The Girl In The Spider’s Web” was fifth with $8 million.

Rounding out the top 10 releases in the U.S. and Canada, as estimated by the studios and reported by comScore, were “A Star Is Born” ($8 million), “Nobody’s Fool ($6.5 million), “Venom” ($4.8 million), “Halloween” ($3.8 million) and “The Hate U Give” ($2 million).
