Man Hospitalized After Drum Circle Stabbing

(CNS) Posted Monday April 25, 2011 – 9:36am

A man is hospitalized today with stable vital signs after he was stabbed twice in the chest with an unknown object during a fight at the weekly Venice Beach Drum Circle, a police sergeant said.

The victim, a man in his early 20's, was in the group playing drums, when a crowd of onlookers gathered, Sgt. Danny Contreras said.

The sergeant said he did not know what the fight was about.

"People bump, push and dance,' he said.

The victim ``was swung on and discovered he'd been stabbed,' Contreras said. The object with which he was stabbed has not been found.

No one seemed to have noticed who stabbed the victim Contreras said.

"A lot of people don't want to get involved,' he said.

Contreras said that the knife assault is similar to one last week when onlookers not part of the drum circle caused trouble and someone was stabbed. There are no suspects, he said and it is not known if it is gang-related.
