Viewers Don't Stick Around For 'Love In The Wild' Premiere; NBC Wins Week

(CNS) Posted Wednesday July 6, 2011 – 4:52pm

Following America's Got Talent, last week's most-watched prime-time program, wasn't enough of an assist to give the premiere of NBC's Love in the Wild a victory in its time slot.

Love in the Wild, a dating series with elements of Survivor, averaged 6.48 million viewers, finishing second in its Wednesday 10-11 p.m.

time slot and 13th among all prime-time programs shown between June 27 and Sunday, according to live-plus-same-day figures released today by The Nielsen Co.

A rerun of CBS' CSI: Crime Scene Investigation -- airing for the first time in what will be its air time this fall -- won the time slot and was ninth for the week, averaging 7.46 million viewers.

Love in the Wild retained 47 percent of the 13.71 million viewer average for the America's Got Talent episode which preceded it, a key factor in determining a program's success. Viewership for Love in the Wild dropped 17.8 percent from its first half-hour to its second -- from 7.11 million to 5.85 million viewers.

But Love in the Wild fared well among viewers ages 18-49, the group NBC, ABC and Fox target and advertisers covet because they watch less television and are harder to reach. The premiere won its time slot, finished seventh for the week and retained 53.66 percent of America's Got Talent's viewership among that group.

With two broadcasts of America's Got Talent and the season's final two of The Voice combining to sweep the top four spots, NBC was the most-watched network for the third consecutive week, averaging 5.75 million viewers.

The June 28 two-hour final competition episode of The Voice was second for the week, averaging 12.7 million viewers. The finale June 29 was fourth for the week, averaging 11.05 million.

CBS finished second, averaging 5.49 million viewers. It had each of the week's seven most-watched scripted programs, all reruns, topped by NCIS at fifth overall.

ABC was third for the week averaging 4.63 million viewers.

Its most-watched program was The Bachelorette, which finished sixth, averaging 8.27
million viewers, the most since its season premiere May 23.

Fox was fourth, averaging 3.35 million viewers. Its most-watched program was the Wednesday edition of So You Think You Can Dance at 26th overall with 5.56 million viewers.

NBC also recorded its third consecutive weekly victory among viewers ages 18-49. This is the first time since the weeks of Feb. 8-14 through Feb. 22-28, when it aired the Winter Olympics, that NBC has finished first in both total viewers and viewers for three consecutive weeks.

The two-hour final competition episode of The Voice was the week's most-watched program among the group, with the Wednesday America's Got Talent episode finishing second.

An episode of The Voice has finished first and an episode of America's Got Talent has finished second in entertainment programming among the group for five consecutive weeks.

TNT's coverage of the Coke Zero 400 stock car race finished first among the week's cable prime-time programs, averaging 6.03 million viewers, putting it 21st overall.

USA Network was the most-watched cable network in prime time for the fifth consecutive week, averaging 3.13 million viewers.

As usual, Univision was the most-watched Spanish-language network, averaging 3.18 million viewers for its prime-time programming. Univision topped all the English-language networks among viewers ages 18-34.

The week's most-watched Spanish-language program was the Monday episode of the telenovela Triunfro del Amor, (Triumph of Love) with 4.55 million viewers, 46th among all broadcast and cable programs.

NBC finished first for the 94th consecutive week and 141st time in the past 142 weeks among the network nightly newscasts, averaging 7.8 million viewers. (NBC's figures do not include the Thursday or Friday broadcasts, which were effected by coverage of the Wimbledon tennis tournament.)

ABC was second, averaging 6.95 million, followed by CBS at third for the 249th consecutive week and fourth with Scott Pelley as anchor, averaging 5.49 million viewers.

The week's 10 most-watched prime-time programs were NBC's Wednesday America's Got Talent broadcast; the two-hour Tuesday competition episode of The Voice; the Tuesday broadcast of America's Got Talent; the Wednesday final results show of The Voice; CBS' NCIS; ABC's The Bachelorette; and CBS' NCIS: Los Angeles, The Mentalist and the Wednesday and Thursday episodes of CSI; Crime Scene Investigation.
