Spanish Colonial Estate Has Ocean Views
Designed by Robert S. Raymond in 1931 in the Hobson Heights hills of Ventura, this ocean- and island-view residence is reminiscent of many of Santa Barbara’s George Washington Smith-styled estates. The original plans for the home are in the Ventura Historical Museum.
The home was originally designed for local Judge Felix Ewing (1849-1926) who was the first superior court judge in Ventura serving from 1903 to 1907.
Completed in 1931 at a cost of $27,479, the Spanish Colonial home with red-tile roof and white lathe and plaster walls offers four bedrooms and four baths in the main house in approximately 4,400-plus square feet. Solid mahogany doors and custom handcrafted built-in cabinets are some of the original features found throughout the home.
Features include original red-oak floors, Ernest Batchelder tile in the bathrooms, wood crown molding throughout with picture rail molding in a few of the rooms, high ceilings, a fresco- painted ceiling in the stairwell and wrought-iron custom stair rails. A 1950’s St. Charles kitchen remodel was completed in 1958 along with gardens in the back yard.
At 1720 Miramar Dr., the home is being offered for $2.59 million. Janet Caminite and Phil Ranger of Sotheby’s International Realty Montecito have the listing.
