(CNS) – Allyson Felix, who served as one of three grand marshals at this year’s Rose Parade, was chosen Wednesday the 2016 Sportswoman of the Year by the Los Angeles Sports Council.
Felix, a USC graduate, won two gold medals and one silver medal at the 2016 summer Olympics in Rio. She is the only woman to ever win six overall gold medals in track-and-field, and with nine medals overall, she is tied with Merlene Ottey of Jamaica for the most decorated female track-and-field Olympian.
The award will be the third for Felix, who also won the Sportswoman of the Year honor in 2007 and 2009, according to the Sports Council.
The award will be presented during the 12th annual L.A. Sports Awards ceremony on Feb. 27 at the Beverly Hilton.
