Over 50 Beverly Hills Police Officers were deployed to maintain order at the Lily Pond in Beverly Gardens Park Tuesday, where anti-Trump demonstrators were enjoying a band, hot dog vendors, making speeches and waving signs to provoke drivers on Santa Monica Blvd. to honk their horns in support.
The signs included sentiments that are not repeatable, others that promote open borders, impeaching the president and gun control, among the issues represented by protestors. At least a half dozen television stations were on hand to cover the event, evidently expecting a much larger crowd than the few hundreds that were in attendance.
The event was a free-for-all with wide-ranging messages that were unapologetic towards Republicans, conservatives, Trump, and a variety of other causes. A giant blow-up Trump doll and a person dressed in an unflattering Trump costume completed the scene.
The event was driven by the President’s first visit to California since winning the election, though in fact, he never was in Beverly Hills. His trip took him to San Diego to inspect border wall prototypes and to Los Angeles for a $35,000 minimum fundraiser in Beverly Park. He never saw the demonstrators.
Wednesday morning, crews were cleaning the pond and bumper stickers dotted traffic light poles, which read, “Impeach Trump,” and “Impeach them all.”
This is the second demonstration in two days at the Lily Pond.
On Monday evening, a few scores showed up for a DACA rally hosted by California State Senator Kevin De Leon, who is running for the seat currently held by State Senator Diane Feinstein. De Leon’s message disparaged the residents of Beverly Hills, and attacked Republicans. The son of immigrant parents that crossed the border illegally, he has a strong pro-immigration message.
