The City Council will review the possibility of taking a position on Measure M Tuesday, a proposal to increase the county sales tax by one half-cent, and to extend the existing Measure R half-cent sales tax beyond its 2039 expiration date to fund transportation projects.
Measure R received two-thirds of the vote in Los Angeles in 2008, meeting a threshold for tax increases set through Proposition 13. The purpose was to fund transit projects throughout the county, including the Purple Line beneath Wilshire Boulevard and the Expo Line that runs to Santa Monica.
