Just one week after El Rodeo school was closed in order to address the seismically deficient tower, district officials this evening made the decision to immediately close Hawthorne school to address a similar problem. The K-8 school is expected to remain closed Thursday and Friday while Hawthorne’s tower is encased in protective scaffolding.
The school is expected to re-open on Monday.
“The decision was made with the safety of our students and staff foremost in our mind,” said Superintendent Steve Kessler.
El Rodeo closed abruptly last Wednesday morning. It reopened Monday following removal of the tower’s cupola and the subsequent erection of scaffolding to enclose the tower. A similar process is expected at Hawthorne.
