With President Obama set to arrive in L.A. this afternoon, traffic will be horrendous in a city where congestion already plagues the streets.
Until Thursday afternoon, President Obama will be visiting the Los Angeles area. He is set to attend two political fundraisers on his trip. The first, on Wednesday night, will be hosted by the producer of Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, and the new-show, How to Get Away with Murder, Shonda Rhimes. Co-hosting the event will be Scandal‘s lead actress, Kerry Washington. Rhimes’ home is in the Hancock Park area and tickets begin at $1,000. Thursday, Obama will be at the home of Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino for his second fundraiser.
In addition to his two political fundraisers, the President will be at the Los Angeles Trade-Technical College Thursday, where he is set to deliver a speech.
The LAPD has released a list of streets to avoid because of the high-level of traffic due to the President’s visit. On Wednesday, between 2 to 4 PM, they recommend not driving in the vicinity of La Brea Ave. and Olympic Blvd. and from 9 AM to 4 PM around Doheny Dr. and Beverly Blvd. From 4 to 8 PM, they recommend avoiding the area of Third Street and Rossmore Ave. and from 6 to 8 p.m. from Beverly Blvd. and Doheny Dr. In general, the areas near the borders of Beverly Hills and Los Angeles should be cleared.
Some streets will be completely restricted, such as Rimpau Blvd., from Edgewood Pl. to Olympic Blvd., and Olympic Blvd. from Rimpau Blvd. to West Blvd.
Thursday, the Police Department recommends clearing from the areas of Doheny Blvd. and Beverly Blvd. from 5 AM to 4 PM, Sunset Blvd. and Mandeville Canyon Road from 9 to 11 AM, Sunset Blvd. and Barrington Ave. from 10 – 12 PM, Grand Ave. and West Washington Blvd. from 4 AM – 5 PM and Figueroa and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd from 1 to 3 PM. Along with the border of Beverly Hills and L.A., the city recommends avoiding the north Brentwood area and the southern area of Downtown L.A. Thursday.
