A debate that was scheduled to take place tonight at City Hall on the Hilton Initiative, has been cancelled, but another debate with Beverly Hills North Homeowners and the Beverly Hills Municipal League is scheduled to take place 7 p.m. onOct. 6 at The Beverly Hilton.
The cancellation of the City-sponsored debate was announced last Friday evening by Therese Kosterman, communications manager for the City of Beverly Hills.
The cancellation came about when no representatives volunteered to represent the Hilton in the affirmative for their measure. The Hilton declined to participate in a debate against a panel of speakers opposed to the Initiative hand-picked by members of the Wanda development group was empaneled to speak when the Hilton withdrew from the debate on Tuesday.
The debate on Oct. 6, sponsored by the Beverly Hills North HOA, will be between former mayor and current Beverly Hills North Homeowners President Robert Tanenbaum and Municipal League Chairman Thomas White. The two are close friends.
That event is open to the public.
Kosterman also stated that the League of Women Voters pulled out of the debate. The organization was going to provide an impartial moderator.
