The poor service by the US Postal Service is one of the items that will be discussed Tuesday at the City Council Study Session.
The Courier has published numerous articles on the poor service, mail theft, no service, and the bitter frustration by all for a constitutionally guaranteed post office that at best, is not adequate to do the nation’s business.
However, the item can be little more than a gesture.
The US Postal Service is under Federal jurisdiction.
As the Courier discovered in our investigations, Congressman Ted Lieu, like his predecessor Henry Waxman, has dedicated staff to this thorny problem. So have our state senators.
Since privatization, the US Postal Service has sought ways to cut costs and boost sales, to no avail – with the latest efforts including a contract for Amazon deliveries. Service suffers.
At the same time, thefts of “arrow keys” that unlock building’s front doors and mailboxes front panels in multi-family buildings are but one of the clever ways thieves have capitalized on old technology.
Also on the agenda – marihuana laws, port cocheres, North Santa Monica Boulevard reconstruction and the Golden Globes.
