Beverly Hills police arrested a man on Wednesday who police believe carried a gun on the campus of Beverly Hills High School and followed a student as she left campus.

According to BHPD Lt. Elisabeth Albanese, police were called around 5 p.m. on Wednesday regarding a suspicious person near Moreno and Robbins Drives. A caller told police that the man was following her in a Green Toyota Camry.

Police pulled the vehicle over and found a loaded gun inside the glovebox. After an investigation, police determined that the driver – Michael Alphonso Barona, 25, of Los Angeles – had entered the Beverly Hills High campus through an open gate, parked his vehicle and was seen walking around campus.

When the BHHS student who called police left campus and got in her car, she noticed Barona following behind in his car.

Barona was arrested for violating the Gun-Free School Zone Act, a felony, and for Carrying a Loaded Firearm in a Vehicle While in a Public Place.

Barona was being held on $20,000 bail and was scheduled to appear at the Airport Courthouse today.
