An estimated 10 acres are burning in the area between Yoakum and Portola Drives and 150 firefighters are battling the blaze off Benedict Canyon Road.
Four LAFD helicopters are dropping water and five engines from Culver City, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica are knocking it down. BHFD Deputy Fire Chief Joseph Match reports that the at this point, there are no structures in the Beverly Hills area that are threatened, and some evacuations are on the Los Angeles side. It is not clear if they are mandatory or voluntary, he said.
Structure protection is in place.
Matsch called the response a “large contingent,” pointing out that there is no wind. With weather working in their favor, the fire is “not wind-driven,” he stressed. “This is not the 405 fire or Santa Barbara,” he said.
The area is a green plateau that is mostly undeveloped.
