(CNS) – U.S. Navy Lt. Dean Legidakes will be honored as the Military Hero of the Game at Wednesday evening’s interleague game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Oakland Athletics at Dodger Stadium.
Legidakes joined the Navy in 2008 and has completed two deployments to Iraq. He also completed a deployment to Central America in support of Operation Martillo, a multi-national operation that aims to combat international drug trafficking.
Legidakes is a test pilot stationed at Naval Base Ventura County near Oxnard and has accumulated more than 2,500 flight hours. In October, he will move to Florida to continue his career as a hurricane hunter, piloting a maritime surveillance aircraft.
Legidakes’ honors include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and Expeditionary Medal.
The ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by Titus Welliver, star of the Amazon police drama “Bosch,” and Michael Connelly, its creator.
The Dodgers will receive their award as Major League Baseball’s Defensive Team of the Year for 2017. Yasiel Puig will receive his award as the top defensive right fielder. Winners are determined using a formula that combines traditional defensive statistics with advanced metrics, as well as the data logged by the baseball experts working for the scouting service Inside Edge.
The first 40,000 fans in attendance will receive a hooded sweatshirt.
