Now, in its 24th year, the Palm Springs International ShortFest–the not-so-little-sister of Jamuary’s Palm Springs International Film Festival–has announced it’s summer lineup.
Beginning Tuesday and running through June 25 at the Palm Springs Cultural Center, this will showcase 333 films from 62 countries around the globe including 42 world premieres.
There are 55 curated programs, which will screen while more than 5,300 submissions designated by AMPAS, BAFTRA and BIFA, will be available in the film market for industry to view.
Festival attendees can hear from a diverse group of industry pros who are ready to meet to hear sales pitches. There is even a class and workshop on “How to Pitch Like A Pro” amid the schedule of seminars, panel discussions and roundtables, all staged free of charge for attending filmmakers.

First it was the groves’ date palms, and now it’s the golf courses. Slowly but surely we are seeing the demise of what made the Desert unique.
Money, of course, is the reason for the shift in the Desert’s focus as members of Palm Desert Country Club, one of our area’s oldest greens, recently voted to rezone its now defunct 9-hole executive course to a development for 69 condominiums.
Since the closure of the club’s smaller than normal course about four years ago, PD Holdings (the new owner of the course), has argued that the golf course business is financially unsustainable and something new must be built in its place.
Two late. The rezoning has been approved by a 3-2 vote of the Palm Desert City Council.
The un-approving homeowners have yet to be satisfied, in spite of being provided with renderings with ample “green space.”
Could be that the owner’s green belt is really a money belt.
