Build it and they will come … eventually. That’s been a mantra of Coachella Valley developers for more than a decade. The latest developer with a dream for our local desert is J. David Miller, the head coach of the SoCal Coyotes, a Palm Springs-based semi-pro football team.
Miller has put together a team of developers who have announced preliminary plans for a 12,000-seat indoor sport stadium complex operated by a newly formed Coachella Sports & Entertainment Authority. The facility would be located in North Palm Desert.
The master developer of the complex will be Richmond Honan Development and Acquisitions LLC, a Georgia-based developer of medical facilities. Scott Honan, Honan LLC’s CEO, sought to assure local residents who attended a presentation on the new development about his firm’s lack of any experience in building sport facilities asserting, “A 12,000-seat, air-conditioned stadium, relatively speaking, in terms of our experience in building in airspace and skyscrapers, is not that sophisticated construction.”
Meantime, while the developers have entered the “due diligence” phase of the project, Honan has already begun to identify hotels and senor-living developers that could be financed and owned as separate business entities.

The Buzz is back. In a split decision, the Palm Springs City Council voted to approve a contract with the local transport agency that will see the return of free downtown bus service, known locally as the Buzz. The service is expected to begin daily operation in November and run from noon to 2 a.m., Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The city’s contract with the SunLine Transit Agency to operate the service extends to June 2020, afterwards some fare for riders of the colorfully painted busses will be charged to cover SunLine’s cost.

Another colorfully painted bus is returning to Desert streets (or rather highways). A recent absence of service due to organizational issues has now been resolved and long-haul bus service Flixbus is offering service between Los Angeles and Palm Springs, in less than two hours. (Obviously, not counting the normal three-hour rush-hour on holidays and weekends.)
Flixbus will be offering a minimum of three departures to Los Angeles per day, four from Friday. The route is scheduled to go directly from Palm springs to L.A., with stops at Union Station, Burbank, West L. A. and Westwood.
Now if they could only do away with the rush-hours.
