Paddle Tennis Tourney To Benefit Breast Cancer Research
With the goal of “prevention and cure in our lifetime,” Wilson/Solergy will sponsor a “Paddle Tennis Fundraising Event,” from 10 a.m.3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 26 at the Venice Beach Courts, 1800 Ocean Front Walk.
Donation is $25 for entry and racquet rental for the round-robin tournament. Proceeds will benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).

Fashion Show Aims To Teach Women ‘To Love And Accept Their Bodies
The “Love Your Body Fashion Show,” an L.A. city-wide event, “focusing on empowering women to love and accept their bodies,” will be held from 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 2 at the Luxe Sunset Boulevard Hotel, 11461 Sunset Blvd.
Attendees to the free event will be able to shop at a boutique, visit the Women’s Wellness Corner and enjoy complimentary services and offerings including food and beverage tastings, yoga classes, manicures, massages, products and the fashion show.
“The Love Your Body fashion show was created to show women their value and the importance of treating themselves and one another with kindness and respect,” say organizers. The event is appropriate for females 8 and up.

Child Neurology Foundation To Hold Inaugural ‘A Heroes Dinner’ Fundraiser; John And Laurian Scott Honored; Wendie Malick To Emcee
The Child Neurology Foundation, a national nonprofit that works through advocacy, research and educational initiatives to ensure optimal care for all children living with a neurologic disease, will host its inaugural L.A. gala, ”A Heroes Dinner,” beginning with a reception and silent auction at 6 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 8 at The Four Seasons.
Parent advocates John and Laurian Scott will be honored with the inaugural John & Laurian Scott Hero of Promise Award, recognizing their contribution to pediatric neurology.
Award-winning actress Wendie Malick of TV Land’s Hot in Cleveland will emcee; and Emmy-winning guitar virtuoso Billy McLaughlin will perform. (In 1999, McLaughlin developed rare neuromuscular disorder Focal Dystonia, which affected use of his right hand, sidelining his career as a guitarist. He persevered to re-learn the instrument left handed—a remarkable comeback and the subject of award-winning documentary Changing Keys – Billy McLaughlin and the Mysteries of Dystonia. McLaughlin also offers insight into the child neurology community as the parent to a son living with severe epilepsy.)
The Scotts know the reality of caring for a child with a neurologic disease. They lost their two young children, Thisbe and Noah, to a rare neuromuscular disorder—Brown-Vialetto-Van Laere (BVVL).
Through the establishment of the Thisbe & Noah Scott Foundation (TNSF) (www.thisbeandnoah.org) and it’s project BVVL International, the Scotts were instrumental in coalescing researchers from across the globe to identify the causative gene. This research also granted the Scotts the ability to conceive healthy twins and made that reality possible for other families. In 2011, TNSF funded Harvard researchers’ investigation into the mechanics of the disease, establishing the first embryonic stem cell lines for BVVL and progression into an animal model.
There are more than 400 known pediatric neurologic diseases; and one in four U.S. children lives with a neurologic diagnosis. There is only one child neurologist for every 10,000 children diagnosed.
Proceeds from “A Heroes Dinner” will support CNF’s ongoing mission and the establishment of an annual Foundation Award, offering early support to an individual committed to research—etiology, treatment, health care policy—in childhood neurological disease.
Among the sponsors of “A Heroes Dinner” are: the Division of Pediatric Neurology at Mattel Children’s Hospital and the UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine. Ray Romano To Host International Myeloma Foundation’s Annual ‘Comedy Celebration’ with ‘Celebrity Autobiograpy’
The International Myeloma Foundation’s (IMF) eighth annual Comedy Celebration will present the hit stage show Celebrity Autobiography at 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 8 at The Wilshire Ebell Theatre & Club, 743 South Lucerne Blvd.
Created and developed by Emmy-nominated writer-performer Eugene Pack and Dayle Reyfel, Celebrity Autobiography features celebrity memoirs acted out on stage by an all-star cast. The popular, critically-acclaimed Off-Broadway show won a 2009 Drama Desk Award and a 2010 Bistro Award.
Hosted by Ray Romano (Everybody Loves Raymond, Parenthood), the cast will include: Danny DeVito (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Lucy DeVito (Deadbeat), Patricia Heaton (Everybody Loves Raymond, The Middle), Howard Hesseman (Mike & Molly, Head of the Class), Laraine Newman (The Boxtrolls, Saturday Night Live), Lesley Nicol (Downton Abbey), Rhea Perlman (Kirstie), Doris Roberts (Everybody Loves Raymond), Rita Wilson (Girls), and more to be announced.
Proceeds from the show will benefit the Peter Boyle Research Fund and support the Black Swan Research Initiative (BSRI). Actor Peter Boyle died in late 2006 after a four-year battle with myeloma, an incurable cancer of the bone marrow and one of the fastest-growing blood cancers in the world.
The Peter Boyle Research Fund has supported the IMF’s research since the fund’s inception in 2007. For the second year, the fund is focused on BSRI, a groundbreaking and internationally collaborative effort to find pathway to a cure for myeloma, and is progressing ahead of schedule since its 2013 launch. The research team has developed a first-ever test for quantifying minute amounts of disease remaining after treatment, which will help steer patient treatment in the most targeted and effective way ever. Black Swan Research trials are set to begin in early 2015.
A cocktail reception and silent auction begin at 6 p.m. After the show is a VIP Cast Party & Desert Reception at 10 p.m. VIP Admission is $700 per person and includes admission to all three evening events.
