The Jason Ackerman Foundation celebrates a third successful year of community support and fundraising by releasing the 2014-2015 scholarship applications online at www.jasonackermanfoundation.org.
Students must meet the criteria: survivors of all forms of tragedy, including health issues, unfortunate circumstances and unimaginable loss; tell their personal story in essay form; and attend a Florida public university, college, community college, vocational technical school or other approved program. Scholarship recipients are chosen by a qualified committee consisting of psychologists, educators, board members and family members from within the foundation.
The Jason Ackerman Foundation began giving children who have survived their own tragedies the opportunity to graduate college or trade school and thrive into a successful and satisfying adulthood. The Ackerman and Hannon families continue their personal mission to heal through helping others, having awarded $50,500 to 34 youths in 2012 and $80,000 to 41 youths in 2013 with more funding available in 2014.
“We are very excited launching into our third year of success and enjoying a wonderful sense of family with the youths we now support. Our current kids have proven how strong their will to succeed is and how motivated they are by their life experiences to make a difference within their communities. Honestly they are incredible to simply watch develop into amazing adults,” says Shannon Hannon-Oliviero, executive director of the Jason Ackerman Foundation and Hannon family member. “We continue to be completely motivated and are so excited at the opportunity to welcome more into our JAF family!”
Please help us share this amazing opportunity for the heroes among us – youth who have survived tragic circumstances.
