The Beverly Hills Theatre Guild celebrated its 40th anniversary with a rousing Sunday afternoon party in the Linden Drive home of its Chairwoman Janet Salter. Actress Constance Towers was on hand and will be honored next March when the group holds its Spotlight Awards luncheon.
At that time, the winners of the Julie Harris Playwright Awards will be announced. Several of the past winners have had their plays actually produced on Broadway and other venues. The competition is coordinated by actress Candace Hilligoss Coster, who was congratulated on the success of her new bio: The Odyssey And The Idiocy: Marriage To An Actor.
In addition, the play competition winners for youth, representing aspiring writers from grades 6 to 8, will be presented. Coldwell Banker realtor and philanthropist Michael Libow is the new sponsor, replacing the late Marilyn Hall. Michael showed his flair for show biz by entertaining the crowd with some Frank Sinatra-like singing, accompanied by pianist Jim Furston.
Spotted among the many on hand were Sandy Avchen, Marjie Bender, Richard Stone, Dvorah Colker, Mary Cutler, Mitzi and Stan Eisenberg, Ruth Flinkman-Marandy and Ben Marandy, Lorraine and Ray Friedman, Norman and Marilyn Gallop, Ann Givon, Jim Jahant, Aliza Katay, Louise Kornberg, Howard and Mimi Landres, Jan and Herb Rosenthal, Maggy and Jack Simon, David Stafford, Rita Steam, Barbara Van Orden, Dorothy Victor, Mark Richard, Cecile Kravoy, Debbie and Judson Mock and Patricia Mock.
